Continuing over 20 years of collaboration in Val d’Isère, helping the next generation of ski instructors enjoy the mountains with greater awareness and confidence.
We’re delighted to be continuing our long-standing partnership with ICE (International Centre of Excellence) in Val d’Isère this winter, with Henry returning on 6 January 2027 to deliver another of his popular Off-Piste Awareness & Avalanche Safety talks.
For more than 20 years, Henry’s Avalanche Talk has worked alongside ICE, sharing practical mountain safety knowledge with aspiring ski instructors as they develop their skills and experience in the mountains.
As a leading European Business Partner of BASI (British Association of Snowsport Instructors), ICE delivers professional ski instructor training programmes, helping prepare the next generation of instructors for careers in the mountains.
More Fun, Less Risk — The Backcountry Smarter Approach
At HAT, our philosophy has always been simple: helping people have more fun in the mountains while taking less risk.
Avalanche awareness is about more than snow conditions and rescue equipment. It’s about recognising hazards, understanding terrain and making good decisions, while being aware of the human factors that influence our choices.
Through real-world examples and HAT’s Accident Reduction Framework, Henry helps skiers develop a practical approach to managing risk, building the confidence to enjoy more of what the mountains have to offer.
Supporting the Next Generation of Ski Instructors
For ICE trainees, mountain awareness is an important part of becoming a well-rounded ski instructor.
Our sessions complement their on-snow training and support more advanced trainees preparing for the International Mountain Safety elements of BASI Levels 3 and 4.
It’s always rewarding to work with enthusiastic young skiers, sharing knowledge and experiences that will stay with them throughout their skiing careers.
“It’s always a great talk and perfect for our students to hear this vital information before taking on an extended period of time with us in Val d’Isère.”
Looking Forward to Another Great Winter !
We’re looking forward to meeting this season’s ICE trainees on 6 January and continuing our shared commitment to safer, smarter off-piste skiing.
A big thank you to James Duffield and the whole ICE team for their continued collaboration.
Here’s to another fantastic winter in Val d’Isère!
Safety is Freedom!
