Ortovox transceiver training HATWhen you go off-piste, it is essential to have the right safety equipment and to really know how to use it. In our course with the ORTOVOX Safety Academy you will learn the essentials of staying safe when you go off-piste.

We will teach you the basics of modern risk management. This includes some facts about snow and avalanches, the proper handling of safety equipment, and tactical evaluation methods. You will also learn the correct procedure to use if an avalanche accident does occur, in an active victim search and rescue exercise using your transceivers and practising your digging technique.

PROGRAMME:

08:45 meeting at the Gourmandine Restaurant in Val dIsère, or 09.15 at the bottom of the Marmottes chairlift for those staying in Tignes. The whole day is spent on the mountain. In the morning you will go off-piste with our guide to find the best snow and be coached about the essentials of decision-making and route selection. We will also explain how your avalanche safety equipment works. After a quick  lunch stop on the mountain, you will take part in an active search and rescue exercise, learning about how to find multiple victim burials with your avalanche transceivers. The day will finish at around 16.00 on the Bellevarde area of the mountain, giving good access back to Tignes or Val dIsère.
