At HAT we used to call our talks “avalanche talks” because they were primarily about avoiding avalanche danger. We now prefer to call them “off piste awareness talks”.
We have evolved our training and events to be not just about avalanches, but about making the most of the off-piste. Off-piste is about discovering more of the mountain, it is about getting more from your skiing and for many helps them fall back in love with the sport. This is why we do it.
With some simple training, you can make going off piste no more dangerous than driving your car from the airport to the resort. Going off piste ensures you will have a much better time on the mountain. And you will want to keep coming back.
Remember this is why we do it. So we are calling this years UK Tour
The Off Piste Awareness Tour
Henry will be visiting the UK in October and November to deliver two different talks. The HAT team will be providing avalanche transceiver training.
The talks are
Ride Hard ! Ride Safe The Essentials
Ride Hard ! Ride Safe The Essentials – which provides a one and half hour introduction to how to make more of the off-piste, how to stay safe and how to make decisions. This is the first step to gaining more confidence so you can enjoy the off piste terrain. This provides a framework to help you find the best snow and make decisions about where and when to go off piste.

Ride Hard ! Ride Safe – In depth
Ride Hard ! Ride Safe In depth gives you insight into how to manage the two biggest risks off piste. First, you will get to understand exactly how avalanches are triggered which will equip you to be able to read the snow pack and make better decisions. Second, you will learn about The Human Factor and why so many accidents happen to people who should have known better. Specifically, what it is that distracts us from using what we know and can lead us into danger.

Avalanche Transceiver Training
Avalanche Transceiver Training is an opportunity to learn and practice how to use this critical piece of safety equipment. Our sessions are different from the brief introductions offered by ski instructors in the resort. The training lasts 3 hours. You will have the chance to learn and refresh your technique on 8 different areas where you will locate and recover single and multiple victims.
We teach using a proven method that breaks it down and makes it simple.
